Introduce the timeless chic of black and white into your home this season for classic appeal with a lasting impression.
The Home Company, Skipton’s long established furniture and furnishings store, has some top tips on how to embrace a monochrome decorating scheme and set a striking tone.
Linda Lee, the lifestyle store’s manager said: “A black and white decorating scheme oozes sophistication and can really create a timeless statement in any area of the home.
“Choose a dark carpet to act as your base shade and work it with varying shades of that colour on walls, furniture and soft furnishings to get the look. For those who still want to go mono but prefer a softer look, choose accessories in exciting tones of dark brown, grey and cream.”
Linda suggests teaming a super comfy armchair in a moody shade, like the Stressless Metro recliner, with accessories in tonal colours to create a minimal feel to a living space. Or if you dare to be bold, opt for black cushions and couple with white furniture pieces and metal fixtures to give a dramatic appeal.
Give your décor extra depth and add a sharp, clean look to a room with the Sloan Rug in black and white. Featuring a unique pattern, the handwoven accessory is the perfect way to pull the style together.
If you find black and white too plain, Linda recommends choosing floor lamps in sparkling metals or cushions and throws in deep shades of velvet and satin for a more glamourous appeal. Or use statement artwork or a classic timepiece such as the Newgate 50’s electric wall clock in either chrome or black.
Said Linda: “The beauty of a monochromatic interior is that it can work with a number of decorating styles such as Scandinavian and industrial chic. It’s easy to achieve and if done correctly, creates a look that your guests will remember.”
