Maximise Your Living Space

Even the smallest living spaces should still ooze glamour and style.

That’s according to The Home Company, Skipton’s long established furniture and furnishings store, which has some big ideas on how to open up smaller rooms to create an on-trend look and cosy atmosphere.

Linda Lee, the lifestyle store’s manager said: “Choosing the right furniture is key to maximising the feel of a room, as well as taking into consideration decorating styles.

“Neutral and beige colours soak up the light and accentuate a feeling of space and brightness. And while dark shades can add warmth and depth to a space be wary of where you use them, as they can make a room seem smaller.

“For those who dare to be bold and want to bring personality into the space, team bright matching curtains and cushions with oversized mirrors that reflect the sunshine and create a sense of depth.”

For smaller sized bedrooms choose wardrobes with drawers to maximise storage space, such as the Chamonix double or triple robes with combined space below, so mixing style with practicality.

The Cannes sofa bed, from the Dales collection is perfect for box sized guest bedrooms. A comfortable sleeper sofa, available as a two or three seater, it can transform the room in an instant and is perfect for those unexpected visitors!

If you want to add a bit of drama to your living space, opt for cushions and throws in shades of burnt oranges and reds, such as the Zora cushion or the Zen cushion to give a warm, cosy feel to a room.

Linda also suggests that lighting is key when it comes to smaller sized rooms, helping to create the illusion of space. She recommends the compact but contemporary Sven floor lamp or the highly alluring wire weave lamp, lit with sparkling fairy lights to create a romantic ambiance.
